SteamPunk! Copper Enamel, Chalcedony, Malachite and Reed Switches Necklace (001441)
This SteamPunk piece has a Copper Enamel focal of a spoked wheel. The rest of the constructed focal includes Blue Chalcedont rondelles, several sizes of Lapis Lazuli rounds, and a large natural Malachite barrel bead. Copper Enamel is a process of annealing glass powder to a copper backing by subjecting it to great heat (our jewelry kiln runs to about 1450 degrees).
The rest of the strand features more of the same but has one long section comprised of Reed Switches. These are a type of magnetic switch invented at Bell Laboratories in 1936. It consists of a pair of contacts on ferromagnetic metal reeds in a hermetically sealed glass envelope.
The drop is about 4" long; the necklace (inside diameter) is about 19.75".
